Benefits of a new career, as a bus and coach driver.
Your First Steps to a UK Bus and Coach Driving Licence

Before embarking on your journey, ensure you meet the fundamental eligibility requirements:

  • Age: You must be at least 18 years old. However, you can only drive a bus or coach with certain limitations until you reach 21 years old.

  • Medical Fitness: Possess a valid UK driving licence (category D) and meet the required medical standards.

  • CPC Qualification: Hold a valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).

  • Theory Test: Pass the Driver CPC theory test.

  • Practical Test: Successfully complete the practical driving test for buses and coaches.

Obtaining a Provisional Licence

To start your journey, you'll need a provisional licence. This allows you to practice driving under supervision. Here's how to obtain it:

  • Apply Online: You can order your D2 and D4 medical pack from the DVLA website or we can arrange for one to be sent out to you by post.  Simply complete the form on the side, and a member of the team will get one sent in the post to you, and email out a starter guide packed with helpful hints and advice.

  • Provide Necessary Documents: You'll need to provide proof of identity, address, and medical fitness.

  • Pay the Application Fee: A fee is associated with the application process.

  • Group 2 Medical Assessment: You will need to undergo a Group 2 medical assessment to ensure you are fit to drive a bus or coach. This assessment will be carried out by a registered medical practitioner and will cover a range of factors, including your vision, hearing, and general health.
